Turning $5 into $5,000: An Interview with the Trip to the Strip Winner
We caught up with CJ aka Coindrop on his first place lineup in the 25K Trip to the Strip promotion. Players were encouraged to enter as many New Years Day lineups as they could in hopes of winning a share of the $25,0000 in guaranteed cash prizes.
Have you played daily fantasy football prior to DraftDay? How did you hear of our site?
This was my first year playing daily fantasy football and didn’t know such a thing existed until I followed a link to a freeroll for one of the other sites. A few weeks later I found out about DraftDay from an email I received from CardRunners. I liked DraftDay’s layout as well as the generous amount of freerolls that were available and I’ve been playing here ever since.
How does it feel to win $5,000 for nailing first place in the game?
It feels pretty good! Scoring an amount that big and seeing that number in your account definitely puts a smile on your face!
What are your plans with the winnings?
I have a few plans in mind, although I haven’t decided exactly how to split the winnings up. I’m probably going to use some of the money to help pay for some of the big-ticket items I bought last month for the holidays. Whatever I don’t use will probably be my bankroll and hopefully I can build it up some more!
Walk us through your winning lineup — what factors came into play when drafting your team?
When I heard that Rodgers was going to be inactive for the game, I figured it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to put Flynn in as my QB. I was heard pretty good things about him during the year and the matchup was good, so I was confident he’d put up good numbers. I think most of my other picks were pretty straightforward; I wasn’t worried about any of them not playing the entire game. Malcom Floyd had posted some nice scores in the games leading up to Week 17 and V Jax wasn’t 100 percent, so I decided to roll with him.
Which player on your lineup was the biggest surprise? Who came through for you in the end?
I figured Flynn would do well, but no way did I think he would give me over 50 points. He was for sure the biggest surprise! Akers and the TD was nice too!
How did it feel sweating the game? Were you glued to your computer?
Well, I was just watching the 1pm games and not really paying attention to the scores at first. When the 4pm games were on, I’d start to check DD during commercials and halftime. Don’t think I checked again till those games were done. That was the moment when I realized that I had a good shot at winning. I remember that I was in 2nd place with the Sunday night game left to go, and I was down 3 points. The player above me had no guys remaining, but I had Victor Cruz. When Cruz caught that ball and started to break away from those defenders, I felt such a rush! Went back to the computer to check my score and see who still had guys left. The rest of the game I was hoping for Cowboy 3 and outs!
Any other comments you’d like to share with DraftDay players?
After only a few months playing daily fantasy football, I feel that daily fantasy sports is going to be the next big thing. I think with more time, incentives, and promotions like the TTTS, DD has the potential to be the top site for daily fantasy sports!
